The half ham comes from one of the three major muscles of the pig's LEG: the inside round, the outside round and the sirloin tip.
Slowly roasted in our in-house ovens, the pork half ham is ready to be enjoyed.
At Les Fermes Valens, natural pigs are fed an all-natural diet consisting mainly of cereals, such as corn and barley, and vitamin and mineral supplements, for optimum nutritional intake. Pork meat is free from drug residues, as our farmers use no hormones or antibiotics in their production.
Ham is a must-have in the kitchen, and its nutritional benefits (high in protein and low in fat) make it an essential part of any family's daily diet.
Maple ham and pineapple recipe:
- Place ham halves in a saucepan and cover with water. Bring to the boil over medium heat, then simmer over low heat for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven, rack in center, to 140°C.
- Drain ham and prick with cloves (20-30).
- Place ham in an ovenproof dish, top with pineapple slices (400 ml can) and add pineapple juice and 540 ml maple syrup.
- Bake, uncovered, for 90 minutes, basting the ham with the pineapple syrup and juice mixture 2 or 3 times.
- Serve with diced potatoes sautéed in a pan with onions, bacon and fresh herbs such as thyme and rosemary.
